What’s the Weather Like in Fall?
From September through November, the weather around Lake Norman gradually shifts from warm summer afternoons to sweater weather. September highs average in the mid-80s, perfect for a last boat day on the lake. By October, afternoons hover in the mid-70s, and November cools to the mid-60s with crisp mornings in the 40s and evenings as low as the 30s. You’ll feel great in light layers during the day and cozy blankets at night.
When to See Peak Fall Foliage
The hotter the climate, the later the leaves change. In Lake Norman, peak fall foliage is typically late October – early November. During this time, you’ll experience brilliant oranges, fiery reds, golden hues of yellow, and even some purple leaves! Be sure to have the camera ready to capture all the magic of this season.

Carolina Renaissance Festival
- Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, October 4 – November 23
- Location: 16445 Poplar Tent Road
- Tickets: Adults, $37.99 | Kids 5-12, $23.99 | 4 and under, Free. Dates sell out quickly.
Step back into the 16th century at one of the most beloved events in North Carolina. The Carolina Renaissance Festival features jousting, live performances, artisan markets, and plenty of food (yes, giant turkey legs included).
All-American Dog Show
- Date: September 28
- Location: 17738 W Catawba Ave (Robbins Park)
A lighthearted community event with contests like Best Pooch Smooch and Best Singing Voice. Admission is free; only contest registration requires a fee.
Laketoberfest Music & Brew Festival
- Date: October 11
- Location: Bailey Road Park
Celebrate local breweries, live music, and food trucks at this free event. Families will also appreciate the Kids Zone. The event opens at 4 PM. Bring chairs and blankets so you can hang out and enjoy the afternoon.
Sheepdog Trials & Dog Festival
- Dates: November 15-16
- Location: Rural Hill
- Tickets: From $7.81
